Oregon State University

Willamette University

Students interested in studying abroad have the luxury of choosing programs from more than 40 countries. The university also has a partnership with Tokyo International University, which allows students interested in Japanese language and culture the chance to interact with Japanese students. Willamette University’s sustainability efforts have not gone unnoticed. The National Wildlife Federation has recognized the university as first in the nation among 1,050-plus schools for practicing the most sustainability activities, many of which are student-initiated efforts. Willamette is a founding member of the Northwest Conference in the NCAA Division III, and its teams are known as the Bearcats.

Along with being the oldest university in the West, the Willamette University College of Law is the oldest law school in the Pacific Northwest. Not to be outdone, Willamette’s Atkinson Graduate School of Management is one of only two MBA programs in the world accredited for both business administration and public administration. The school’s weekly newspaper, Willamette Collegian, began publishing in 1875 and has won several distinctions from the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association. Notable alumni of the university include Dale T. Mortensen, the 2010 winner of the Nobel Prize in economics, and James Albaugh, former executive vice president of The Boeing Co.

Oregon Tech

Oregon Tech is a public institution that was founded in 1947. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 5,178, its setting is rural, and the campus size is 305 acres. It utilizes a quarter-based academic calendar. Oregon Tech’s ranking in the 2021 edition of Best Colleges is Regional Colleges West, #5. The Oregon Institute of Technology, better known as OIT or Oregon Tech, is situated in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, in the city of Klamath Falls. OIT academic programs include the highly ranked engineering and engineering technologies fields, as well as biology, management, communication studies and radiologic science. As the school with America’s first undergraduate program in renewable energy engineering, OIT emphasizes sustainability in both academic and campus life. For decades, geothermal resources have heated the OIT main campus, which also offers a club focused on sustainability and internships at the Oregon Renewable Energy Center.

Students can also get involved in any of the dozens of student organizations or take advantage of the landscape through the OIT Outdoor Program, which plans activities such as snowboarding, deep-sea fishing and skydiving. Student athletes can play at various levels, including intramural, club and intercollegiate. The Hustlin’ Owls varsity teams compete in the Cascade Collegiate Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and offer opportunities in baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, track and field, softball, soccer and volleyball.

Linfield University

Linfield University is a private institution that was founded in 1858. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 1,414, its setting is rural, and the campus size is 189 acres.
