The University of Bergen Petroleum Engineering was established in 1972 as the first petroleum engineering program in Norway. The school has grown steadily over the years and now offers several undergraduate degrees as well as master’s and PhD programs.
The undergraduate program at the University of Bergen Petroleum Engineering includes several different areas: drilling engineering, reservoir engineering, production engineering, geology, geophysics, and geological safety management. Students can choose between two different options: one focuses on petroleum engineering; while the other focuses on environmental technology. Both options cover the same basic concepts in the first year with additional courses available in each area during subsequent years. For example:
Drilling Engineering – This option covers topics such as drilling theory, design features; drilling fluids; drilling rigs & equipment; drill stem tests; well logging; well control procedures; CO2 injection technology; drilling fluid chemistry; advanced logging methods; wireline logging methods; advanced wireline logging methods (mud resistivity); advanced wireline logging methods.
