University of Guelph Tuition, Fees & Residence Costs

The history of the University of Guelph can be traced back to 1874 when the province of Guelph decided to open a school of Agriculture on a 500 acre farm. In 1969, the Agricultural College converged with Macdonald Institute and Veterinary College to form University of Guelph.

With a long reputation of innovation, Creativity and discovery, the University has acquired a leading position in life sciences, arts and humanities. The University has campuses in Guelph, Ridgetown and Guelph-Humber through collaboration with Humber College in Ontario. It has 7 colleges that are leading in teaching and research in life sciences, agriculture, veterinary sciences, business, arts and social sciences.

The University of Guelph-Humber uses a semester billing system. This means students pay tuition and other fees prior to the beginning of each semester.

Payment Deadline Dates

Fall 2018

Your fees for fall 2018 will be available to view on WebAdvisor on July 25, 2018. Mandatory non-refundable $200 deposit is due on August 10, 2018, for all students.

Full tuition for fall 2018 must be paid by Friday, September 14, 2018.

Tuition and fees can be paid through WebAdvisor using a credit card. All credit card payments made through WebAdvisor will be processed through PayPal.com.

You can also pay through your bank in person, online or via telephone banking. You must register the University of Guelph-Humber as the payee and use your seven-digit student number as the account number. If your bank/credit union does not accept the University of Guelph-Humber as the payee, you can also use the University of Guelph. Do not use Humber College as the payee.

A late fee of $60 will be charged to accounts that are not settled by the tuition deadline date.

Methods of Payment

Credit Card

Tuition and fees can be paid through WebAdvisor using a credit card. All credit card payments made through WebAdvisor will be processed through PayPal.com.

Internet Banking, Telephone Banking or In-person at your bank

You can also pay through your bank in person, online or via telephone banking. You must register the University of Guelph-Humber as the payee and use your seven-digit student number as the account number. If your bank/credit union does not accept the University of Guelph-Humber as the payee, you can also use the University of Guelph. Do not use Humber College as the payee.

Global Pay for Students (Preferred method for International Students)

International students can pay their student fees from outside of Canada through Western Union’s GlobalPay for Students. This option allows you to pay your student fees in the currency of your choice.

Academic Load

Your tuition and fees will depend on how many credits you are registered for in each semester.

Full time

The normal full-time semester load for academic programs is 2.50 credits except where otherwise prescribed by the schedule of studies. All students registered in 2.00 (or more) credits in any given semester are considered full time.

Part-time

A student who is registered in fewer than 2.00 credits in a semester is considered part-time.

International and Visa Student Tuition*

The most efficient means for an international student to pay student fees is through Western Union Business Solutions bank to bank transfer. This option allows you to pay the Canadian dollar student fees in the currency of your choice and provides you with a simple and secure way of initiating a payment electronically.

International and VISA students are eligible for domestic tuition and fee rates if any of the following situations apply:

  • Students whose immigration status changes to that of a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Person while they are a student.
  • Students who are diplomatic or consular officers of another country or representatives of the United Nations or its agencies who are stationed in Canada, or their dependents.
  • Students who are visitors in Canada on an employment authorization or their dependents.
  • Students who are members of foreign military forces admitted to Canada under the Visiting Forces Act and their dependents.

The descriptions above are brief statements synopsized from the regulations of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. Final interpretation rests with Registrarial Services and documentation must be acceptable to Registrarial Services. The regulations are subject to change without notice.

Students must present acceptable official documentation to Student Financial Services in GH112. To effect a change of fees in a particular semester, the documentation must be presented prior to June 30 (Summer Semester), November 1 (Fall Semester), or February 1 (Winter Semester).

Fees are charged by credits, excluding charges for Meal Plan, Residence and Parking. Examples below are for 0.5 credits.

Please note that June 8, 2018 was the last day to cancel your room and dining plan without penalty. If you cancel your room or dining plan after this date, you will have to pay a $500 withdrawal fee.

Campus and Student Accommodation

The University of Guelph operates campuses in Guelph, Toronto, and Ridgetown. The main campus of the University of Guelph is located in the city Guelph spanning to 400 acres, with a blend of modern & traditional architecture. 

  • An Arboretum and a Research Park are included in the main campus. 
  • Maclean’s survey shows that the campus scores top marks for Student Experience.
  • The campus comprises 7 dining halls, 13 coffee houses, and 2 bakeries.

The University of Guelph provides accommodation to all its first-year undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate students. More than 5,000 students live at campus in single and family residences. The applicant must submit the online residence application and pay CAD 750 residence deposit by June 1, 2020, for a guaranteed spot in campus residence. 

The University of Guelph has three residence halls:

  • South Residence Community: It is the largest community with a capacity of 1,800 students. It comprises three buildings: Mountain, Prairie and Maritime Hall.
  • North Residences: Comprises the following six halls with single, double, triple, and quad room types:

    • Lamington Hall
    • Johnston Hall
    • Mills Hall

  • East Residence: Home to these three halls with single and double room types:

How to Apply for Admission to the University of Guelph?

There are three ways to apply for international applicants:

  1.  You can apply using the 105 application available online at the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC ) 
  2. If you only wish to apply to the University of Guelph, apply online directly using the form available at the Online Application page for the international students. 
  3. You can also apply with the Common Application.
    1. A US$90 non-refundable application processing fee is required from all applicants.

Application Dates

January 15, 2020The deadline to apply if you wish to be considered for early offers of admission.
February 3, 2020Early Consideration deadline for non-Canadian students to submit their application and academic documents (including English Proficiency).
February 15, 2020Official application deadline
March 2, 2020The final deadline for document submission.
June 1, 2020Deadline to accept the offer of admission through OUAC;

  • Official documents must come directly from the issuing institution or accreditation body in their official sealed envelope in English or English translations. 
  • Fall Semester, which begins in September, is best suited for international applicants applying from high school or secondary school.

English Language Proficiency Requirements 

International students are required to present evidence of English language proficiency. 

The university holds the right to deny admission if the applicant does not demonstrate satisfactory facility in English, regardless of academic qualifications.

Following are the acceptable English Proficiency Tests

Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL)A minimum overall band score of 70

The applicant can also fill the Student Profile Form (SPF) to describe the extracurriculars they are involved in and did activities that helped develop their leadership qualities.
