Admission
Thank you for your interest in the Ole Miss MBA program. The application process is your opportunity to tell us who you are, why you seek admission to our program, and how you will succeed in our program.

Please note that the admissions requirements listed below are the minimum required for consideration for admission. Admission is competitive.

Required Application Documents
TRANSCRIPTS
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in any field from a regionally accredited institution. Please send transcripts directly to the University of Mississippi Graduate School, P.O. Box 1848, University, MS 38677-1848. Candidates must have a 3.0+ overall GPA or on the most recent 60 semester hours of course work.

GMAT/GRE SCORES
Candidates must submit an official GMAT or GRE score that is no more than five years old. The University of Mississippi Institution Code for both the GMAT and GRE tests is 1840. All test scores should be sent directly to the Graduate School. Candidates must have a 500 minimum on the GMAT or the equivalent GRE score of a 302. If you did not request that your score be sent to Ole Miss at the time of testing, please contact ETS to have your GRE score or GMAC to have your GMAT score sent to the University.

We do not waive the test requirement for individuals who already possess a graduate degree, professional degree, or significant professional work experience.

While the Admission Committee considers the entire application, if your GMAT or GRE equivalent is below a 500, we recommend that you retake the exam in order to be competitive for admission.

TOEFL SCORES
International candidates must submit an official TOEFL score of at least 600 or an equivalent score of 99-100 on the IBT.

TWO LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
Candidates should follow the online application instructions to submit contact information for two letters of recommendation; the online system will send a reference form to your contacts.

It is the candidate’s responsibility to track his or her application to ensure that the letters of recommendation are received prior to the deadline. The Graduate School can resend the forms if necessary; please call (662) 915-7474 with your application number. Paper letters can also be mailed directly to the MBA office in the School of Business at the address in the sidebar.

RESUME
Candidates must submit a current resume via the online application. We do not have a format preference.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE*
A candidate must submit a Statement of Purpose with his or her name included via the online application. The Statement of Purpose is a short essay in which an applicant reflects on the contribution the MBA degree will make to his or her future success and the special characteristics that he or she brings to the MBA program.

Prerequisite Coursework
Completion of two prerequisite undergraduate courses is required prior to enrolling in MBA courses: Principles of Accounting (UM ACCY 201 or ACCY 202) and Business Finance (UM FIN 331), or their equivalencies. Courses must be completed with a “C” or higher.

It is possible that applicants have completed the above courses or their equivalencies in undergraduate coursework, particularly if a degree has been awarded in a Bachelor’s of Business Administration. To confirm that you meet the prerequisite course requirements, you may email a copy of your unofficial transcript to Amy Johnson at ajohnson@bus.olemiss.edu for further review.

Admission decisions are not based on successful completion of these courses. However, admitted students are not permitted to enroll in MBA courses until the prerequisite courses have been completed with a grade of “C” or better. These courses can be completed as part of an undergraduate program or they can be taken at any accredited institution. Application Deadlines
While the program is designed to begin in the summer or fall term, students may enter the program in any semester. However, if the candidate’s goal is to complete the program in one year, it is unlikely that can be achieved if he or she enters the program in the spring.

To be considered for admission for one of the three possible entry points, all application materials must be received by the following deadlines:

Summer Admission (starting in May) – April 1
Fall Admission (starting in late August) – July 1
Spring Admission** (starting in mid-January) – November 1

Admissions Decisions
Admitted candidates will receive an email of acceptance from the MBA Office. If a candidate is admitted to the program, he or she must respond to indicate whether or not he or she plans to join the program

The Ole Miss Graduate School also generates emails to accepted candidates based on the decision made by the department.

Assistantships
A limited number of assistantships are available for outstanding MBA applicants. All admitted students are considered for assistantships based on undergraduate GPA and GMAT scores as well as other academic criteria. Assistantships offer a partial graduate tuition waiver (approximately 75 percent) for the fall and spring terms and a monetary stipend in exchange for ten- twelve hours of work per week within the School of Business. Computers
All students are required to have a portable computer when they begin the online MBA program. The computer should be up-to-date and able to run the most current version of Microsoft Office, which is also required. Students should assure themselves that service and support would be available from the vendor, as any down time will be detrimental to class performance. A personal printer is also very helpful but not required.

PCs are recommended as software in the statistics class can be unavailable for Macs

Cost and Financial Aid
Cost is always an important factor in graduate program selection, and the Ole Miss MBA Program is one of the best values you will find anywhere.

Tuition and fees are based on your residency status (Mississippi resident or non-resident), the number of credit hours for which you enroll, and the semester of enrollment. Tuition and fees change annually. Use the tuition estimator application on the Bursar’s website to estimate the current costs of tuition and fees for the MBA program. Please be sure to scroll down to the MBA program and indicate if you are resident or non-resident and the number of hours for which you will enroll to determine your cost per term.
Financial Support
The John N. Palmer MBA Assistantship Program
The John N. Palmer MBA Assistantship Program provides financial aid and practical experience to a limited number of full-time, on-campus MBA students with the highest admission credentials (GPA and GMAT score) among their peers. Assistantship recipients are assigned to a professor (or department within the Business School) for a total of 10- 12 hours of work per week to assist with administrative or research activities. John N. Palmer assistantships provide a stipend of $2,500 per semester in the fall and spring semesters and include a partial waiver (approximately 75 percent) of graduate school tuitions and fees during the fall and spring semesters. Please note that there is a difference between the MBA tuition and Grad School tuition. Students will be responsible for the difference. The assistantship excludes summer and intersession courses.

If a student is a non-resident and receives a John N. Palmer assistantship, the out of state tuition graduate fee is waived for the fall and spring terms.

Upon receiving the award, specific criteria will be sent to you along with your departmental assignment.

Assistantship recipients from the 2019 academic year had the following outstanding qualities:

Mean Undergraduate GPA of 3.50
Mean GMAT of 550
Significant leadership, community service, research, and work experience during their undergraduate tenure
All admitted students are automatically considered for an assistantship. No additional application is required. Assistantships are awarded for two semesters only, Recipients must be enrolled full-time to be eligible (9 credits minimum) and must remain in good academic standing (GPA above 3.0).

Honors Fellowships
Honors Fellowships of $2,000 per academic years are awarded to a small number of incoming students of exceptional academic accomplishment. Recipients of graduate fellowships are also eligible to receive departmental assistantships and/or other fellowships. More information is available from the Graduate School.
Diversity Fellowship Program
The Graduate School administers a fellowship program available to persons who are members of minority groups (African American, Hispanic American, and Native American) that have historically been under-represented in graduate education programs. This program has two components: (1) a stipend and (2) a tuition scholarship.

The stipend is $1,000 for master’s students (fall and spring). To receive this stipend, a student must be admitted into a degree program, enrolled on the Oxford campus for at least 9 hours of graduate work each semester, nominated by the academic department, and must not be a full-time employee.

The tuition scholarship is valued at 75 percent of regular graduate tuition (and a 44 percent non-resident scholarship). The tuition scholarship also is available to graduate students who are part-time. This scholarship is applied automati
