All undergraduate programs at the University of Oslo are taught in Norwegian, but there are a few Master’s Degree programs taught in English. Some special programs such as Medicine, Psychology, and Theology take six years to complete and grant special degrees.

• An undergraduate/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent of at least 3 years of study (it must include courses equal to at least 1/2 years of full-time studies in a subject relevant to the programme you applied for)

Norway has the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NOKUT), which sets the minimum requirements that vary depending on each student’s home country.

For instance:

• Indian students need an English test and two other certificates that prove university education.
• Nigerian students don’t require an English test, but require Senior School Certificates in 6 subjects (obligatory English, Mathematics and Science), with 1 other certificate.
• South African students only need a National Senior Certificate.
• American students must present High School Graduation Diploma + 1 year university or college studies in academic subjects or 3 Advanced Placement Tests with at least grade 3.
• English students need a General Certificate of Education with at least 3 A Levels or Cambridge Pre-U Diploma (3 Principal Subjects + Global Perspective and Research) or a combination of A Levels and Cambridge Pre-U Principal Subjects in 3 different subjects.

Applying for a bachelor’s programme?

All our bachelor’s programmes are taught in Norwegian. You can apply if you can document that you are already proficient in Norwegian, however, no Norwegian language courses will be provided prior to admission.

Applicants residing in Norway and Nordic citizens

Study programmes starting in August:

• The application portal opens 1 February.
• 1 March is the deadline if you qualify for an early result or if you are applying for Helseadministrasjon or European Master in Health Economics and Management.
• The application deadline is 15 April for all other programmes.
• You will receive your application results within 9 July.

We will conduct supplementary admission rounds on 19 July and 10 August for programmes that have available places. You will receive an email if you receive an offer in one of the supplementary admission rounds. If you receive an offer, you must reply within respectively 26 July or 17 August.

Note that if you did not apply for admission by 15 April, it is not possible to receive an offer in one of the supplementary admission rounds. 

Please also note that if you are offered admission to a programme or study option with a higher priority in the supplementary admission round, you will automatically lose the place that you accepted in the main admissions round.

Admission is once a year. You can apply for up to two programmes or study options.
