Virginia Tech – the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, officially, though no one calls it that – is Virginia’s land-grant university and one of the premier STEM research institutions in the nation. Founded in 1872 under the Morrill Land-Grant Act, Virginia Tech was originally the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College, focused, as the land-grant act required, on practical knowledge and research – the roots of modern applied sciences and engineering. The college was also founded as a military school, and Virginia Tech remains one of the six nationally-recognized senior military colleges, with its Corps of Cadets and ROTC (a requirement until 1964). Virginia Tech is ranked by U.S. News & World Report in the top 25 public universities nationally.
Although most students would fail to identify with it, the real name of ‘VirginiaTech’ is Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. It’s a public ‘land-grant’ university in Blacksburg, Virginia, and has been one of the top universities in the country ever since its inauguration in 1872. VirginiaTech is one of the most sought after colleges around, especially for students pursuing a Masters in branches like Mechanical, Civil, and Aerospace Engineering. Getting in is extremely difficult though – every year the average undergrad GPA increases, and the number of applications shoots up some more.
Founded on October 1st, 1872 in Blacksburg, United State, Virginia Tech was first established as Virginia agricultural and Mechanical College on a three-part mission of teaching, research and outreach. The school has witnessed tremendous academic transformation and sophistication in facility and structure since then and is currently one of the highly sought-after names in the US Education System.
With its main campus in Blacksburg, educational facilities in six regions and a study-abroad site in Switzerland, it is recognised for its inclination toward innovative technology and tremendous contribution to the sphere of technology. With the vision to develop knowledge through deep learning and insightful experience, the school has churned out professionals in all forms of human endeavour making it a primary choice for international applicants to study in the USA.
Admissions at Virginia Tech are offered in various intakes of Fall, Spring and Summer and also observes some early priority deadlines. With an acceptance rate of nearly 70%, the institute is lightly selective in its approach towards enrollment and welcomes students with decent profiles from across the globe.
