heย University of Baltimoreย (UBalt,ย UB) is aย public universityย inย Baltimore,ย Maryland. It is part of theย University System of Maryland. UBalt’s schools and colleges provide education in business, law, public affairs, and the applied arts and sciences.[7]ย The university is the location of one of Maryland’s two law schools.

University of Baltimore at a glance

Baltimore, the largest of its kind from Maryland and the largest independent city of the U.S.A. has a unique atmosphere. Being also home to the most public monuments per capita, Baltimore is also known as โ€œCharm cityโ€, โ€œThe city of firstsโ€ or, as one of its mottos says, โ€œThe city that readsโ€. This city is famous for its second largest seaport in the Mid-Atlantic area, the Inner Harbour, who attracts visitors and locals altogether. Besides its harbour-urban park, Baltimore has hundreds of districts with plenty of cultures, vibes and styles. From modern skyscrapers to picturesque brick buildings, Baltimore stands out in the United States of America. The rich culture of Baltimore is also visible from the large number of artists that lived there, such as writer Edgar Allan Poe, singer Billie Holiday, baseball player Babe Ruth, and composer Francis Scott Key, who wrote the national anthem of the U.S.A.

University of Baltimore Accreditation Details

The University of Baltimore is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Accreditation means that the university meets or exceeds the rigorous standards set forth by the Commission that indicate institutional effectiveness and academic performance. In addition to regional accreditation, programs throughout the agency are accredited by industry specific agencies and organizations.

University of Baltimore Application Requirements

Students who have not earned college credit after high school graduation are admitted to the University of Baltimore as freshmen. Students must complete an application for admission and pay the applicable fee. Students must provide an essay or personal statement along with official high school transcripts and SAT or ACT scores. Students may also submit a resume, list of extracurricular activities and letters of recommendation although they are optional.

Students who have earned college credit after high school may apply as transfer students. Students must complete the application and pay the applicable fee. Students must provide an official college transcript from all colleges and universities attended. Applicants who have earned more than 24 college credits after high school may apply with coursework in progress rather than wait until the semester ends. However, a final transcript reflecting grades assigned at the end of the semester must be provided to complete the admission process. Some programs may have additional admission requirements so students are encouraged to speak to an admissions counselor before applying.

Graduate applicants must complete an application for admittance which includes a personal statement. There is a non-refundable application fee as well. Students must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended with one displaying the conferring of a bachelor’s degree or higher. Individual graduate programs may have additional admission requirements so students are encouraged to speak to an admissions counselor before applying.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The University of Baltimore offers in-state and out-of-state tuition rates. Students who live in the following areas are eligible for in-state tuition:

In-state undergraduate tuition is $308 per credit hour for on-campus courses and $349 for online courses. Out-of-state tuition is $973 per credit hour for on-campus courses and $1,037 for online courses. Graduate tuition per credit hour is as follows:

  • Arts and Sciences โ€“ $730 in-state/$1,091 out-of-state for Master’s; $932 in-state/$1,582 out-of-state for Doctoral
  • Business โ€“ $785 in-state/$1,084 out-of-state
  • Juris Doctorate Law โ€“ $1,200 in-state/$1,690 out-of-state
  • Master of Business Administration โ€“ $824 in-state/$1,149 out-of-state
  • Master of Laws (LLM) in Law of the United States โ€“ $673 in-state and out-of-state
  • Public Affairs โ€“ $752 in-state/$1,091 out-of-state for Master’s; $960 in-state/$1,582 out-of-state for Doctoral

Financial aid is available and 80 percent of University of Baltimore students receive some type of financial assistance. Aid is available in the form of grants, loans, work-study and scholarships. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify for assistance.

Online Degrees Available

Master of Science in Business Administration

The Master of Science in Business Administration is offered in a completely online format. Students who enroll in the online program are eligible for in-state tuition regardless of where they live. The program is inspired by real-world business challenges. It was built using expertise provided by the Baltimore business community as well as alumni and students. The program is built around six principal themes which include:

  • Leveraging technology and business intelligence

The online program offers the same rigorous course of study that the on-campus program requires.

Master of Public Administration

The Master of Public Administration online program is NASPAA accredited, one of only 23 in the country. The same courses required of on-campus students is required of online students. Students must be computer and information literate. Courses required for the program include:

Studying in Baltimore

In Baltimore you may earn a Bachelorโ€™s degree in fields such as American/Asian/ancient studies, engineering, dance, biology, accounting, advertising, communication sciences and others.

You Masterโ€™s degree programme is available in biological sciences, engineering, computer sciences, business administration (MBA and executive MBA), education, leadership, nursing and others. PhD programmes and certificates can also be found in Baltimoreโ€™s universities.

You may also find a Bachelorโ€™s degree or Masterโ€™s degree programme from universities specialized in liberal arts, theology, culinary arts and hospitality management or medicine. Most of the courses are available in full-time and part-time versions. If you wish to enrol in a distance degree course, in Baltimore you may find blended or fully online programmes.

Life

Baltimore city life

Baltimore is represented by the famous and spectacular Inner Harbour area, which also includes the National Aquarium. There are also other attractions such as the Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Fort McHenry or the neighbourhoods of Fells Point and Mount Vernon.

If you wish to mix indoor activities with culture, you may visit the Walters Art Museum, the Sports Legends Museums at Camden Yards, Baltimore Museum of Industry and B&O Railroad Museum or Charles Theatre.

Arts and entertainment have their own areas, found in Station North Arts and Entertainment District, Highlandtown Arts District and Bromo Arts & Entertainment District. A famous institution also is the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Some of the events that attract visitors are the Artscape and Maryland Film Festival. However, nightlife in Baltimore is active and impressive in some of the cityโ€™s neighbourhoods, where you can find bars, taverns, clubs or sports bars.

Baltimoreโ€™s climate is based on four seasons. Winters are cool and sometimes there are snowfalls, autumns and springs are warm and, sometimes, with precipitations and summers are very warm and humid. Afternoons sometimes bring a pleasant breeze. Average temperatures are of 2.1ยฐC (35.8ยฐF) in January and 27.1ยฐC (80.7ยฐF) in July.

The University of Baltimore is working with an external partner, BHS to provide a comprehensive Student Assistance Program (SAP). The SAP offers mental health and wellness services to students and provides students confidential access to a professional counselor anytime, any day, anywhere via phone or online. Professionals are available around the clock to provide information, resources, and referrals for a wide spectrum of matters, including personal counseling, family concerns, information regarding substance concerns, legal and financial consultation, as well as other resources that may be of interest to students.

In the past five years, the number of UB students living near campus has increased an amazing 134 percent. That’s because everything you need is right here: who wouldn’t love living close to great restaurants, stores, cultural attractions and nightlife?

There are many great housing options all around UB Midtown. If you live near campus, you’ll not only be steps from classes, but also close to your friends and all the conveniences and luxuries city life provides.

Student Life

Campus life

The 501 is located approximately a mile from campus. The facility offers granite kitchens, stainless steel appliances, free WiFi, Direct TV-enabled rooms, a 24-hour fitness center, outdoor green space and free on-site parking. Fully furnished units are available at no extra charge.

Sports facilities

All UB students are automatically members of the Recreation Center (you’ll need to bring your Bee Card for access), as well as many UB staff and faculty members. All remaining staff and faculty, as well as UB alumni, can purchase membership.

Student clubs

There’s something for everyone when it comes to getting involved at UB. Our student-run organizations cover academic, cultural, professional and social topics. No matter what you’re intoโ€”anime, dance, fashion, law, politics or sports, to name a fewโ€”you’ll fit right in.
