* Online students are not subject to most student fees. The university reserves the right to change prices at any time. Tuition remission cannot be applied toward any Frost Online program. If you are eligible for tuition remission through the University of Miami, then you will need to apply to the on-campus programs.

Frost School of Music Scholarships

Life Achievement Scholarship*

The Life Achievement Scholarship rewards accepted students with up to 40% off their tuition, beginning as soon as they enroll in a master’s program. The following criteria are used to determine scholarship awards:

• 3.25 or greater undergraduate GPA—15% scholarship
• 3.50 or greater undergraduate GPA—20% scholarship
• 3 years of experience in the music or arts industry (as supported on resume)—20% scholarship

Alumna for Music Theory and Composition

• Deborah De La Torre, B.M. ‘91
  “Frost left an indelible mark on my musical formation which remains with me to this day.”
   
  The award-winning musician holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the Frost School of Music, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Regis University. Her passion for music has led to her work as a pianist, music composer/arranger, instructor, performer, art festival founder, film producer, and recording artist/producer.
   
  She has taught and performed in the U.S. and internationally, and founded several arts and culture nonprofit organizations, including an international Latina/o art and film festival, which grew to a ten-day event with over 3,000 attendees. Deborah produced a documentary dealing with immigration and human rights, and her compositions are published by Orbis Books and DLT Press. She has served in senior leadership capacities in creative organizations (art festival, museum, film, music organizations, etc.) and as a judge in national, community, film, art and music events.
   
  The recipient of numerous business and civic awards for her dedication and service to the furtherance of arts in the community, Deborah now performs her own compositions under the name of “La Cocodrila” (the lady crocodile) and her 2018 album, “¡Coño! (But With A Swing)” continues to enjoy international critical acclaim. Deborah currently teaches at DIME-Denver, a commercial music program affiliated with and accredited through Metropolitan State University Denver.

• Kathryn Evans, Ph.D. ‘12“I chose to study at the Frost School of Music because of the excellent reputation of the music education faculty and the opportunity to teach several classes as a University of Miami Fellow. The combination of education, mentorship, and experience teaching in higher education prepared me for a successful career in music teacher education.”
   
  Kathryn L. Evans, Associate Professor of Music Education and Music Education Graduate Program Director at Towson University, is a specialist in choral and general music education.  Dr. Evans earned a Ph.D. in music education at the University of Miami, where she was the recipient of the prestigious University of Miami Fellowship.  She received Master of Music degrees in both music education and choral conducting, as well as the Bachelor of Music Education degree, from Central Michigan University.  
   
  Prior to joining the faculty of Towson University, she taught kindergarten through twelfth grade general music and choir in northern Michigan.  An active clinician, conductor, adjudicator, and researcher, Dr. Evans has worked with honor choirs, served as a frequent adjudicator for choral assessments, and has presented at teacher in-services and conferences across the United States and internationally.  She is the Past President of the Maryland Society for Music Teacher Education and currently serves on the board of the Maryland Choral Educators Association as University Representative.

• Keith Washo, M.M. ‘00“Frost School of Music as one of the only schools in the country that had a masters in music business and entertainment industry. I decided to study that major because I had an interest as a songwriter and musician to work in the music industry and this degree provided the best opportunity to learn about the industry.”
   
  Keith Washo lives in Raleigh, NC where for the last two decades has worked in sales & marketing for leading technology companies in Silicon Valley like Creative Labs, SanDisk, and Qualcomm. In addition, leadership roles at consumer electronic startups like Bigfoot Networks and Adaptive Sound Technologies.
   
  Washo is also an entrepreneur founding consumer products company Purebuds Earphones and Producer of The Love Show. Currently VP of Sales and Business Development with networking tech company out of Silicon Valley, Vimana.io.   Washo is a guest lecturer at Duke University teaching marketing, sales, leadership, and business management. Plus guest speaker at NC STATE with the American Marketing Association
  program. He is an active member of Toastmasters International and an award-winning contest speaker and author of the books,” The Heart Of Success,” sharing wisdom on growing your professional and personal life the right way and “Good Things Come From Hard Times,” sharing advice on overcoming adversity.
   
  Washo holds an Executive MBA from Saint Mary’s College of California, A Master’s in Music Business & Entertainment Industries from University of Miami, and a B.A. In Broadcasting & Music from the State University of New York at Oswego. Most recently completed Duke University executive program for “Communication Leadership,” leadership series at NC State with “Influencing Without Authority,” and “Professional Presence” program at UNC Chapel Hill.

• Matthew White, M.M ’06, D.M.A. ‘11“Frost has a unique blend of academic and professional experiences available to students. That, along with the vibrant student community I built relationships with, have been great in the development of my career.”
   
  Trumpeter, Composer, and Educator Dr. Matthew White is currently an Associate Professor of Music and coordinates the commercial music and music technology programs at Coastal Carolina University. He was previously a first call freelance and session musician in Nashville and Miami. He holds degrees from the University of North Florida and The University of Miami and has appeared on numerous albums, radio broadcasts, and television shows, performing with: Bob Mintzer, Jeff Coffin, Arturo Sandoval, Dave Liebman, Rihanna, Oscar DeLeon, Brian Setzer, the Mavericks, Steve Bailey and Victor Wooten, Becca Stevens, and various other artists, ensembles, symphonies, and big bands.
   
  In 2019, Matt was named a Guggenheim Fellow in Music Composition. He was a keynote speaker at the 2017 National Association of Leadership Educators Conference. He is a member of the Charleston Jazz Orchestra and manages the Wheelwright Recording Studio at CCU.
   
  Matt has released three albums as a leader. The Super Villain Jazz Band and Worlds Wide both received 4-star reviews in Downbeat Magazine and made the “Best of” yearly lists. Matt wrote, tracked, engineered, and produced his latest album, The Trumpet.
