collageGeorgetown Law is part of a consortium of law schools that share a near-universal application system operated by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). Under this system, each applicant may apply to any participating school using either the LSAC’s online form or a paper version available from any LSAC member school.
Georgetown has sent more graduates to work as Supreme Court clerks than any other university; sixteen alumni have served as clerks since 2000, second only to Yale University’s 19.[5] For fall 2019, Georgetown enrolled approximately 1,717 J.D., LL.M., and S.J.D.

In 2017, 1,806 students applied for a spot in the part-time program at Georgetown Law. Of those, 156 were accepted—a rate of 8.6%. Those numbers are similar to what they were in 2016 and 2015: 8% and 9%, respectively.
Georgetown’s acceptance rate for its part-time program is similar to what some other top schools offer. For example, Northwestern University School of Law accepts 7% of applicants into its part-time law program. The University of Illinois College of Law accepts 10% of applicants into its part-time program
However, some schools accept a higher percentage of their applicants than Georgetown does. American University Washington College of Law, for example, accepted 60% of its applicants into its part-time program in 2017.

Acceptance Rates
The acceptance rate is that of applicants granted admission as full-time students for classes commencing in fall 2018. The acceptance rate of the applicants does not reflect actual enrollment rates, a subset figure.
Student-to-Faculty Ratios
When applying to school, it’s important to pay attention to the student-to-faculty ratio. This number depicts how many students there are in a class per faculty member. When you are comparing schools that you are interested in, make sure to take this number into account. It’s important to understand that lower numbers mean fewer students per faculty member and more individualized learning experiences. If you like a lot of personal attention, look for a school with a low student-to-faculty ratio!
Bar Passage Rates
The bar passage rates reflect those among first-time test takers for the winter and summer 2017 administrations of the bar examinations. The state noted is that in which the greatest number of the law school’s graduates took the bar exam for the reported period.
Employment Rates
The employment rates shown are those of the 2017 full-time graduates at the time of graduation and ten months after graduation.

The data indicate the number of print and microform volumes, as well as volume equivalents.
Gender, Race & Ethnicity
The data shown indicate the percentage of the faculty that are male and female, respectively, and the percentage of the faculty and students that are racial or ethnic minority (Hispanics of any race, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, multiracial, non-resident alien, or unknown race).
Salaries
The salary statistics are those of full-time, long-term employed law graduates for the class of 2017 at the time of graduation and within ten months after graduation (approximately spring 2018 ), as self-reported by the graduates.
The salaries indicated for “Median Salary Private” reflect those salaries of the 50th percentile, among those graduates working in private practice as law firm associates. The salaries indicated for “Median Salary Public” reflect those salaries of the 50th percentile, among those graduates working in government jobs or judicial clerkships at the federal or state level.
In determining median salaries, jobs classified as “JD advantage” have been excluded (i.e., positions in which the employer requires a JD or considers it an advantage to hold such a degree, but in which admission to the bar is not required).

Full-time and part-time students at ABA-accredited law schools who will have completed their first year of study are eligible to apply to the second year class on a space available basis.
Georgetown Law reviews transfer applications from current full-time or part-time students at ABA-accredited law schools for both Spring and Fall semester admission. Transfer applicants are considered for admission to the second year class on a space available basis. Transfer applicants are considered for either the full-time division, part-time division or “both.”
Georgetown Law will only accept transfer applications from those who will have completed their first year of study (full-time or part-time) at the time of matriculation into Georgetown Law. Applicants who will have earned in excess of 35 credits by the time of matriculation into Georgetown Law are not eligible to apply as a transfer student. Students who will have earned 36 credit hours or more at the time of matriculation into Georgetown Law are, however, eligible to apply as a Visiting Student.
Please be advised that the Law Center will accept for transfer a maximum of 31 semester hours of academic credit from an ABA-approved law school. For more information about academic requirements for transfer students please review the Georgetown Law Student Handbook.

Georgetown University Law Center (GULC), sometimes Georgetown Law, is Georgetown University’s law school. Princeton Review ranks it in the top ten for “Best Career Prospects” and “Best Overall Academic Experience.” Law School 100, a ranking scheme that purports to use qualitative criteria instead of quantitative, ranks the law school seventh overall, tied with Cornell, University of Virginia and others. The school is a member of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS). Its current dean is T. Alexander Aleinikoff. According to the 2008 edition of U.S. News and World Report, GULC is the #14 ranked law school in the nation overall, and is #1 in clinical programs, #3 in international law (tied with Harvard), and #3 in tax law. The law school often emphasizes that its location in close proximity to federal government agencies, courts, and the Supreme Court offer a significant advantage in the study of law.
