NYU Dental School Overview

The largest dental school in the entire country, the New York University College of Dentistry is also the third oldest in the United States, having been founded over 150 years ago in 1865. This century and a half of heritage is a significant draw for students seeking a prestigious, established institution that may catch the eye of employers. It doesn’t hurt that belonging to the NYU system, the college is located in the heart of New York City, in Manhattan.

This program is designed to address conditions, disorders, and diseases of the jaw, oral cavity, and associated structures. General health is largely dependent on oral health, so as a dentist you are affecting the health of the body as a whole. Most programs will be designed to prepare students to be able to evaluate, diagnose, prevent and treat most dental conditions. Studying dentistry can be very rewarding for both students and graduates. Because people will always need dental work, finding a job is usually pretty easy, and most dentists have enviable schedules. Some dental procedures also help to improve the appearance of patients, which increases their confidence.
